The Temple and a Baseball Camp

11/15
Saturday was our ward temple day.
This was my first time going to the Oakland Temple since moving back.
Forgot how much I love it.
Elder Bednar was in the session our ward did (visiting for the 50th anniversary of the temple).
But Justin and I were both in other parts of the temple, so we missed out on that.
It was a bummer!

Owen and Drew stayed home to go to an Aaron Hill baseball camp.
Aaron Hill (far left), Cody Ross (middle), and Wade Miley (far right) from the Diamondbacks
were all there and each coached the kids in little groups.
Drew loved that Wade switched their baseball gloves when he wasn't looking (they're both lefties).
And now he (Drew) can say a pro MLB player wore his glove.

They came home with a bunch of autographed loot and talked about it all day.
Super neat experience for them.

McAbee Beach

McAbee Beach

Go there for:

- the cool wall mural.

- to view the rock stacks (aka cairns) made by @montereyroseman.
(he rebuilds them every day after the tide wipes them out)

Don't go there for:

- the beach

Arrow of Light

Owen wears jeans so rarely, that the last time he put those on, they fit.
But since it was a big occassion, Justin insisted.
Hahahaha.

11/5

It was down to the wire, but he got everything done just in time.

Happy, happy day.

Rained Out

 11/1
Justin's parents came out to watch the boys' last games of fall ball.
The bummer thing was, those games got canceled because of rain.
So we did 17-Mile Drive on Pebble Beach instead.
With not a rain drop in sight.

Gracie came this trip and the kids loved her so much.

We ended our day on Cannery Row.

There's a new monument down there that features notable people of Monterey's past.
Which includes a famous hooker.
Thank you, Monterey.
And because we hadn't had enough sweets that Halloween weekend: Ghirardelli.

Halloween

 10/27
On Carving:
- Those cool green pumpkins are beasts to carve. So hard. Drew did what he could.
- Owen did his on his own (square cut-outs are pretty smart).
- Sally designed hers and I carved. Classic.

 10/31
On Costumes:
- Sally got to borrow Tes's amazing white witch costume. Her hair was spray painted-semi white under that hat. Also notice her white nails and shoes..
- August's bat costume looks simple, but it took me a day to make. I was proud of it. And he only liked it when he was holding a ball or eating candy.
- Drew was Jose Bautista from the Blue Jays. The jersey he wears 3 times a week turned into his costume. He did get an eye-liner beard to complete the look.
- Owen was a bat thanks to a morph suit and foam wings.
- I have to correlate things whenever possible and tied the boys' costumes together in my head by thinking, "every baseball player needs a bat."
- Justin was an Iraqi soccer player with creepy make-up.
- I attempted an ice-bucket challenge costume that Brent thought up, but it was way too awkward.

On Trick-or-Treating:
- It was literally pouring buckets. We haven't had rain forever, and then got dumped on right after the school parade. I tried to be grateful for the rain, but it ruined my big plans to take fun pictures of the kids. And the church trunk-or-treat had to be moved to the gym (but at least there was a gym to move to). The kids went around and around until their buckets were full. Then we based at the Laflans house while the boys did more trick-or-treating in the rain.
- The score this year was a house that handed out fun hats.

Owen's 11th

Loving (or not) the spotlight during the class singing to him.

He requested vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting and sprinkles.
I hope he requests sprinkles forever.

After his game we brought (the same) cupcakes to share w/the team.
They sang to him and apparently offered money.
Oh and that game was maybe his best ever.
He is so great in center field and caught 2 huge flies off the same power hitter.
One catch he totally dove for.

Birthday morning.

He wasn't happy about a Sunday birthday, but maybe kind of fun to be sang to on your actual day?

He ended up saying it was his best birthday ever, Sunday and all.
But I'm pretty sure he says that every year.

11 is such a random year to do a party, but it's been years since he had one.
So we did Nerf Firevision baseball at night.
I thought it was crazy (and it was). But the boys loved it.

Auggie & Me

9/16
Bike ride to Coastguard Pier to see (and smell) the sea lions.

9/24
Another bike ride, this time to the aquarium.
Took the long route around Asilomar.
Then begged Justin to pick us up so I wouldn't have to go up the huge hill.

10/6
Using day-old bread that was donated to our church (that we can never use fast enough) to feed the ducks.
Also, trying hard not to feed the annoying and aggressive seagulls.

10/20
Tried a new (and now favorite) bike route to Seal Rock on Pebble Beach.

 10/27
A pre-nap visit to the butterfly sanctuary.

11/4
Like father, like son.
(went back to the sanctuary w/Justin's parents, who were visiting)

So basically what I'm trying to say is that August and I don't mind when the kids are at school.
The alone time is good for both of us.
