Just Happy Together

8/20
Drew had been waiting 10 weeks for this moment.
I tried, but didn't cut it when it came to playing catch.

It killed the kids to go to school after we picked Justin up from the airport.
When they got home (and finished homework) they were just happy to be out front with Justin.

August is as obsessed with Justin as ever.
He's called for me like twice since Justin's been home.

Finally.

Made it to the airport this morning just in time to see Justin's plane land.

He was supposed to get in at midnight last night, but his flight to LA was delayed, which meant he missed his connecting flight to Monterey.

It was sad.

The kids had gone to bed early (for them) all excited to wake up in the middle of the night to get him.

But this way worked out better in the end...kids got to go to school a little bit late, and nobody was tired.

Sally was too fast for me, but she was the first to spot Justin.
She ran and jumped up to hug him.

10 weeks went so slow and fast at the same time.

And I'm glad it's over.

So good to have Justin home.

Herpes

8/12

Any post titled, "Herpes" probably isn't going to be the most exciting post.

But I'll try.

August had a fever!

For days!

And he cried whenever he tried to eat!

And threw his food!

And just wanted to be held while watching Baby Einstein and Yo Gabba Gabba!

I thought he was teething!

But then his gums were all swollen and randomly bleeding!

So I took him to the dentist!

Who told me right away he had herpes simplex!
(aka the cold sore virus)

And the initial infection manifests itself as a fever/swollen/bleedy gums!

And he'll have the virus for the rest of his life!

But from now on any time it surfaces will be as regular cold sores!

And there is no medicine approved for kids that will help!

Huge bummer!

Where did he get it?!

None of us get cold sores!

We survived the week with lots of Yoo-hoo!

And pouches of food!

And pain reliever!

And drugged up trips to the beach!

And then finally his fever went away!

So we went to the Concourse d'Lemons car show!

And he got to play outside with the other kids!

Yay!

Keepin On

8/8
Sally mostly likes her teacher but does not appreciate the boy that doesn't stop humming.
I like when she brings me home cute notes.
Drew likes school because his teacher doesn't get mad when he talks.
Owen is happy all around.

The life jacket was his request and he wouldn't let me take it off.

8/9
Whenever I remember to make s'mores kits ahead of time, bonfires are so much less stressful.

8/9
Look gross? It wasn't.
Sarah introduced me to JDawg sauce.

They like to strip ASAP after church is over.

When Justin's gone, feeding the missionaries on Sunday means picking up
take and bake Papa Murphy's the day before.
They weren't sad about it.

1.3.5

This year is the golden year when all 3 kids are at the same school at the same time.

Won't happen ever again, so I'm going to enjoy it.

Like pretty much all first days, this one started with nervousness and a breakdown (Sally, sunburned from the beach yesterday).

After school, everyone was all smiles. Even Drew, who got the one teacher he didn't want. We're both still not 100% on her, but hopefully she proves us wrong and he has a good year.

Owen said his day was fantastic. Sally said she would NEVER switch teachers. And Drew's day got a, "very good."

I would still rather deal with summer messes, boredom, and bickering than school-time lunches, schedules, and homework. But the quiet house during Auggie's nap today was pretty awesome.

The End of Summer

Took off work this week and we partied for the last couple days of summer:
Bowling (thanks to free passes from school; Owen won by a landslide).
Pizza My Heart.
Back to school penny wishes at the mall fountain.
Swimming.
Playing with the neighbors.
And one really great beach day (Sally and Tes boogie boarded for hours).
