Leap Month

2/5
Fresh haircut and bath.

Not so fresh haircut.

2/8
Beach with Reed.

What the beach does to him:
He put himself down for a nap on the living room floor with the essentials.

2/9
Typical at the park.

Not so typical at the park:

2/15
Lemons for days.

Too bad they're not juicy.

2/15
Bonfire with the Barrs during President's week school break.

More beach time the next day.
2/16
The sun was most welcome.

Beach changing station.

The boys.

And the girls.

2/17
Have I mentioned Drew's love of scooters?

Or Auggie's love of my phone?
2/17

2/18

2/19
Owen and Justin went on a scout campout to Angel Island in San Francisco.
They took a ferry out there and did a night hike with amazing views of the city.
I want to go!

2/19
Drew talked me into driving an hour away to try a new skate park.

The park was right by this fun pool, so everyone won.

Proud of himself for passing the test to get a wristband
(which meant he could swim in the lanes)

Cole (in the middle) got transferred to Ipoh,
which is the home ward of Elder Liew serving in our ward.
So here he is with Elder Liew's mom.

And here is Elder Liew with us.
2/21
He goes home Tuesday and we get to send a package with him for Cole.

2/24
Loving the fish at Hacienda Hay and Feed.

And the goat.

2/27
Another "Cooking Class" successful recipe.

2/29
Leap day at the aquarium.

Scooter Bars: A Birthday to Remember

Drew's 10th birthday was a sad, sad day.
It was on a Sunday, which meant no playing with friends or shopping or going out to eat.
The scooter bars he asked for (and that were his main present) didn't fit.
Justin was sick.
(sick Justin trying to put together ill-fitting scooter parts was not a good combo)
There were tears from Drew.
And tears from me.
It was a heart-breaking morning.

We worked through it as best we could.
I spent all day in the kitchen making his favorite foods:
donuts, grilled cheese, and sweet & sour meatballs.
He loved the "scooter bars" he requested for dessert.
(which are a real thing)

I love Drew and love that he was able to smile most of the day in spite of everything.

Side note: We can't return the birthday bars, since Justin damaged them trying to get them to work,
so Drew wants to display them in his room to remember his birthday.

Sally Turns 8

2/19

Beanie Boos are Sally's life.
So we planned a Beanie Boo Brunch for her 8th birthday party.
But then when the Beanie Boos (to be adopted at the party) arrived,
Sally asked if she could just keep them all in lieu of a party.
Done.

But then when Sarah heard that the party was off,
she volunteered to host a surprise version of the same party we had planned.
Because it was her EIGHTH birthday and she couldn't not have a party.
So nice and generous.

I secretly took pictures of her Beanie Boos while she was at school.
And had way too much fun with it.

And then Sarah worked her magic:

The guests showed up and awaited the birthday girl's arrival.

And Sarah wore Cal's GoPro to film it all.

Sally was immediately swarmed.

Her reaction was pretty quiet...a lot of smiles and a few giggles.

The girls showed her around and it was fun watching her take it all in.
This party was everything she imagined and more than I ever could have done.
Lucky, lucky girl.

Gathered for the adopting of the Beanie Boos.

Sally got Flora the skunk.

Cute bunch of girls.

Icing on the cake was when Ms D, Sally's teacher, showed up.

Thank you Sarah!!!

Sally's actual birthday was a week later.
And compared to her party day, it was probably a letdown.
(especially since most of the day was spent at Owen and Drew's baseball games)
But there were balloons, presents, a friend, and Lalla Grill.

She had eaten so much junk all day, that all she ordered for dinner was strawberries.

And now we're looking forward to her baptism on April 9.
