December 2016

It's not quite Christmas in July, but June is close enough. Summer! I've been a blogging failure. Finally feel like I have some free time to catch up, so I'm going to do some big fat monthly recaps. Then maybe I can mix things up and stay current. Brace yourselves for FIFTY SEVEN pictures from last December.

12.4
Kicked off the Christmas season with the Monterey boat parade.
In all our years living here, this was our first time.

12.5
The aquarium with Auggie on an uncrowded afternoon is one of my favorite things.
And his. I always forget how much he loves that place till we go back.

12.5
The Cannery Row monument got festive.

The tree on Cannery Row:

12.7
Met Linus on a layover to pick up our new iPhones.
Had them sent to AZ to save on taxes.

12.7
Wrapped 24 Christmas books (mostly from the library) to unwrap and read every night.
I was so excited for this new tradition, but our nights got too crazy to be consistent.

12.8
Gingerbread houses with the young women.

12.9
Christmas recital with their great teacher, Christine Hansen.

12.12

12.13
D.A.R.E. graduation.
Drew is a confident kid.

12.14
Visited our favorite Lula's Chocolate-giving Santa at the Carmel library.

12.15
School winter concert.
The songs were totally unfestive.
No signs of any religion anywhere.

12.15
Christmas caroling on Candy Cane Lane with Relief Society, on the other hand,
was full of  religious songs and it felt good.

12.16
He was so proud of this creation he made at "preschool" with the Ashby's.

12.16
It was a happy day when the Carters came back for a visit.

12.16
This was a genius fundraising idea, but there were one too many snags along the way.

12.17
Love finding fun mushrooms. This place is full of them.

12.17
Best night of the year: the Brown's Christmas party.

12.22
Way too comfortable in those pajamas.

CHRISTMAS EVE
I decided we needed some more festivity.
We visited the city Christmas trees we hadn't seen
and the awesome gingerbread display at Roy's in Pebble Beach.
I was definitely more excited about this plan than the rest of the family.

The Roy's tree.

The Del Monte Center tree.

The Monterey tree.

Waiting for dinner.

Switched our Christmas Day Chinese dinner to Christmas Eve.
PF Changs with the Knoops was a party.

CHRISTMAS DAY

So happy I bought the last Hatchimal at Target in October just in case it was on Sally's list.
Those things were sold out everywhere.
She loved it that day, but hasn't played with it much since.

The drums, however, are still going strong.

When Christmas is on a Sunday, new Nerf bullets end up in pockets at church.

EXTRA
Love seeing pictures I took in Christmas card form.

The kids' ornaments of the year (in order from oldest to youngest):
