Life

8/20
Souvenirs from Jordan on our sexy counter tops.
3 wishes please!

8/22
Modeling Sally's leggings as a unitard.

8/23
Justin's brother Linus had a Monterey layover and got to join us at the Laflans for a BBQ.

The BBQ was to welcome Justin home.
Nice idea from our friends/neighbors.
Took the picture too early...slush wasn't finished.
Just thought Sarah's setup was so cute.
She did this all totally last minute from stuff she already had, and from her own head.

8/25
Got over jet lag just in time.

8/30
Science Saturday at the PG Museum of Natural History.

Awesome sand collection at the museum.

8/31
Avoiding getting dressed after a bath.

9/1
Our Labor Day consisted of chores, Justin going to school to study, too many kids on devices.
Eventually got out to feed ducks and play at the park.

9/1
Just licking brownie batter on the curb in high heels.

9/3
This was after week 2 of taking Auggie to story time.
Makes me feel a little better about neglecting him the next 2 1/2 days while I work.

9/4
I don't think my kids had ever seen a candy poster before.
Now they are enlightened.

Just Happy Together

8/20
Drew had been waiting 10 weeks for this moment.
I tried, but didn't cut it when it came to playing catch.

It killed the kids to go to school after we picked Justin up from the airport.
When they got home (and finished homework) they were just happy to be out front with Justin.

August is as obsessed with Justin as ever.
He's called for me like twice since Justin's been home.

Finally.

Made it to the airport this morning just in time to see Justin's plane land.

He was supposed to get in at midnight last night, but his flight to LA was delayed, which meant he missed his connecting flight to Monterey.

It was sad.

The kids had gone to bed early (for them) all excited to wake up in the middle of the night to get him.

But this way worked out better in the end...kids got to go to school a little bit late, and nobody was tired.

Sally was too fast for me, but she was the first to spot Justin.
She ran and jumped up to hug him.

10 weeks went so slow and fast at the same time.

And I'm glad it's over.

So good to have Justin home.

Herpes

8/12

Any post titled, "Herpes" probably isn't going to be the most exciting post.

But I'll try.

August had a fever!

For days!

And he cried whenever he tried to eat!

And threw his food!

And just wanted to be held while watching Baby Einstein and Yo Gabba Gabba!

I thought he was teething!

But then his gums were all swollen and randomly bleeding!

So I took him to the dentist!

Who told me right away he had herpes simplex!
(aka the cold sore virus)

And the initial infection manifests itself as a fever/swollen/bleedy gums!

And he'll have the virus for the rest of his life!

But from now on any time it surfaces will be as regular cold sores!

And there is no medicine approved for kids that will help!

Huge bummer!

Where did he get it?!

None of us get cold sores!

We survived the week with lots of Yoo-hoo!

And pouches of food!

And pain reliever!

And drugged up trips to the beach!

And then finally his fever went away!

So we went to the Concourse d'Lemons car show!

And he got to play outside with the other kids!

Yay!

Keepin On

8/8
Sally mostly likes her teacher but does not appreciate the boy that doesn't stop humming.
I like when she brings me home cute notes.
Drew likes school because his teacher doesn't get mad when he talks.
Owen is happy all around.

8/8
The life jacket was his request and he wouldn't let me take it off.

8/9
Whenever I remember to make s'mores kits ahead of time, bonfires are so much less stressful.

8/9
Look gross? It wasn't.
Sarah introduced me to JDawg sauce.

8/10
They like to strip ASAP after church is over.

8/10
When Justin's gone, feeding the missionaries on Sunday means picking up
take and bake Papa Murphy's the day before.
They weren't sad about it.
