Half Pony/Half Human

8/10
Sally went to a birthday party last weekend.

Lucky for us, she came home with the hooves from the Pinkie Pie piƱata.

She was "half human/half pony" all afternoon.

Because both ponies and humans crouch on logs.

While she was partying, we were parking:

K, 2, 4

Owen
Calm.
Quiet.
A little excited "because the 1st day you don't really do anything."
A tiny bit nervous.
A little hesitant going to class, but he's not the same kid he was a few years ago.
More confident for sure.

After school, he was excited to report that he gets three recesses plus PE every day.
I'm happy about that, too.

And just cause I know it won't last...
Got right to work on homework without being asked and wrote neatly.

Drew
Tears the night before.
Tears in the van as we parked at school (he didn't want to get out).
Tears in the classroom (as we walked in late on the first day).
Was so nervous to not have anyone to eat lunch with or play with at recess.
(Sally and Owen both have friends in their grades already)

After school, he was all smiles.
Owen ended up having the same lunch and recess as him after all.
"Owen is my brother at home and my friend at school."
And then they were fighting a few minutes later.
Also, he lost his other top, middle tooth during recess.

Sally
Her only tears were the night before when she realized she couldn't wear flip flops.
"And my toes can't move in my Converse!"
She and Tes are not only in the same class, they sit right next to each-other.
Had, "the best day ever."
Today, she wouldn't even let me walk her to class.

And then there's
August

Wasn't used to all the quiet.
Played alright on his own, but wanted me most of the day.
Happy to be reunited with Sally.
Shrieked w/excitement when the boys walked up to the house.

8/7

I think all 3 kids ended up with good teachers this year...it's a huge relief.

ME
I was very bummed to have our summer cut 3 weeks short due to our move,
but the quiet, clean house today is kind of awesome.

Last Days of Summer

7/29
A bike ride to the park.

Came into Sally's room to see this:
7/29

They were her supplies for making this robot:
(the greenery is taped on mostly in the back)

7/30

7/30
Laundry and guitar playing.

 7/30
His top middle scraggle tooth finally came out with his breakfast.
He did not like the way his gums felt.

 8/1
Algae eater.

8/1
Jump-n Around with the Snyders.

 8/4
The fireplace ledge is her stage.

8/6
On her way to meet the teacher.
Very excited for kindergarten.

And one quick trip to the aquarium with the Laflans.

It's Better than Sea World

I couldn't wait one more day to get aquarium passes.
We went kind of spur of the moment after my work on Wednesday.
Then were back again on Thursday.
I love that place and am excited for the summer crowds to die down.

Day 1, we left August at home with Justin (who doesn't share our love for the aquarium, "if you've seen one fish you've seen them all.")

But day 2 he got to come for his first time.
I took him out of the stroller for the baby section in the splash zone and he was in heaven.
They have this little water bed that's surrounded by bubbling walls.
He was in some sort of zone and just laid there so mellow, even when another kid was bouncing around.
And he is not a still, calm child.
I need this at home.

Pirate-y Inflatable Bats

Last Saturday was the Feast of Lanterns festivities at Lover's Point.

Those festivities ended up being a couple of food vendors that are normally at farmers markets.
And some over-priced rides/activities.

The kids got to choose one thing to do and they all chose to throw a couple bean bags at some fat cats.
And they all (even Sally who didn't hit her target) got an inflatable bat.
With pirates on it (no relativity to the Feast of Lanterns whatsoever).

But they were happy.

And immediately started battling.

Insert way too many battling pictures here:

Took a break from the action for the Lover's Point beach.

Sally hit the sea glass jackpot.
And by jackpot, I mean she found like 7 pieces.

 Twins by accident.

The potato tornado looks better than it tasted.

The day festivities were fine to do once.

The night festivities however were awesome.
We ended up sitting by a family from church who are the loudest sober people I've ever met.
Very entertaining.

Everyone sits on the beach and watches a cultural show about 2 lovers who were forbidden to marry,
so they escaped and turned into butterflies.
Or something like that.

 The sea dragon was awesome.
Totally worth those people treading water forever in freezing water.

The night ended with a great (privately funded) fireworks show over the beach.
I have to say privately funded, since the city doesn't have 4th of July fireworks (still bitter).
A local realtor foots most of the bill for this celebration of Pacific Grove history.
We'll take it.
